THROUGH THE EYE OF A NEEDLE – ABRITES PASSTHRU

If you have read my blog in the past, you would surely know two things about me. I love cars and I am not the biggest fan of the way vehicle manufacturers treat their customers. They are great until they sell you the car but afterwards – that is a different story. Nothing but official workshop, nothing but original parts, and, of course, nothing but original diagnostic tools. In a perfect world I would agree, but the world isn’t perfect. I am a firm believer that there are independent workshops where the quality of service surpasses the OEMs. I also believe that most of you guys who read this blog are part of these independent workshops. Thankfully some reasonable legislation exists where they agree with me. Such legislation allows us to use a driver, called J2534 Passthru to operate.

The idea behind passthru is that it should allow independent workshops to use the original manufacturer’s diagnostic software with third party hardware interface. There are many companies that produce passthru compatible interfaces, no question about that. What I can tell you is that our AVDI works. Not only that, it is among the top three cheapest passthru compatible hardware interfaces which in fact work. We have great support for OEM software, as long as you can get the software with you (in most cases you can do that through the manufacturer’s website you can use it just as if you had the OE tool. Some of the ones that stand out in this particular division of the Abrites software solutions is the support for Xentry up to 2024, ISTA-D, ODIS up to 2024, Techstream, JLR SDD, Consult III+, BUDS as the most common ones. Our full support list is as follows:

An interesting thing about passthru is that we have a full passthru manual, you could have a laptop dedicated to the passthru software even, if you wanted to, you can only have the driver for passthru installed on this laptop and you can easily use just that as a separate tool.

Every one of our customers who has an AVDI receives the passthru driver included in the basic software package and it is extremely important to know that whatever the requirements maybe we have a backup via that. I will give you an example. I had a significant diesel 5 series with an EDC17CP64 DDE, an F10. I replaced the DPF but for some reason I had issues communicating with the car using Abrites Diagnostics for BMW. Turns out that I was running a test version, and it was not working but what I did at the time (so that I could drive my car) was to fire ISTA-D up and use passthru to register my DPF replacement. This saved me at that time, and I could not be happier that we could offer this to you guys. Normally there is nothing the OE tool can do that we as Abrites Diagnostics cannot do but sometimes the case is just that. I firmly believe that we get a lot more with AVDI than we have bargained for, and I try to shout from my soap box in the park about all the things we offer. Please continue to ask questions, look for the information, we will try and provide you with as much information as we can. Until next time, try to have fun at work,

Alek
